Unsung heroes

What is a living creature that is fuzzy, yellow, and only half an inch long? That’s right, Bees! Bees serve many purposes, that’s why we need them to continue to work for everyone on earth.

Pollinators:  Bees pollinate most flowering plants and a third of our fruits and vegetables. Could you imagine not having berries, apples and coffee? If it weren’t for bees, these foods would be scarce and expensive or non-existent.

Provide Biological Diversity: Bees help plants reproduce, which provides habitats for animals. In a healthy environment, bees play a crucial role to the growth of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.

Money: Bee pollination is worth billions to agriculture yearly. The more bees we have, the higher quality and quantity of what is produced on our farms.

Our Environment: Bees are listed as a threatened species. This is generally because of pollution, pesticide use, invasive species, and the loss of habitat for our diverse animal population.

Think about all the products we use today that bees had a hand in – cosmetics, honey, beeswax, medicine, just to name a few.  So don’t swat at the bees, we need them more than they need us.
