Vegetable Garden

If you’re thinking of planting a vegetable garden for the first time there are a few things to consider.  Do you have a warm sunny spot in your yard?  You’ll want your garden to get at least 6 hours of sunlight.  Depending on how many vegetables you want to grow, you may want to plant in a raised bed. Or, if you only want to plant a few different vegetables you might consider container gardening.

No matter where you plant your vegetables, you want the soil to be rich and well tilled. There are a number of soil conditioners that can be added to your garden.  Many gardeners use manure to fertilize their soil, but mushroom compost is also very rich in nutrients and makes an excellent planting mix.

Mid-April is a good time to put those plants that you’ve purchased or started from seeds in the ground. The last frost of the season has passed and the earth is ready and waiting for you.  Be sure to keep your garden watered and the weeds pulled and you should be harvesting fresh vegetables in a couple of months.
